Listing criteria and how we stay neutral
About this site
Japan VR Immersive Experience Map helps you find venues and limited-time events where you can try VR immersive experiences in person: walking around in a headset, riding a motion seat, or playing with friends. It is operated by FrameSynthesis Inc.
We also develop VR content and supply content to venues and events. To make sure we are not seen as favoring any company, we have set and published the criteria below.
Listing criteria
- We list venues and limited-time events where visitors can try VR immersive experiences in person. Items with a set period are split by length: those that run 14 days or more are “Limited runs”, and shorter ones are “Events”.
- We also list MR and AR experiences that you wear a headset or AR glasses for, where images are overlaid on the real space around you (tagged “MR & AR”). AR viewed on a smartphone or tablet screen is not included.
- We include only information verified on the operator’s or organizer’s official site, or in an official announcement such as a press release. If we cannot verify an item, we leave it out and show “Check the official site”.
- We limit what we list to information that rarely changes. We do not list opening hours, age and height requirements, health and clothing notes, or how to book, and ask you to check the official site instead (see below).
- Every venue and event is listed with the same fields and presented the same way.
- Each page shows its sources and the date it was last checked. Pages checked a while ago are marked as such.
- We sort only by objective criteria such as distance from the center of the map, prefecture and name. We never change the order or prominence of a listing based on our own preferences or opinions.
- Events that have ended are marked “Ended”, and limited runs and venues that have closed are marked “Closed”. We do not delete them; we keep them as a record.
- This is a selection of venues and events we could verify, not a complete list.
How we stay neutral
- There are no ads and no paid placement. Listing is free, and money cannot change ranking or prominence.
- If we ever add ads or sponsors, we will keep them separate from listings and label them clearly.
- We mark events that FrameSynthesis exhibited at or organized (see below).
- We accept correction requests from operators and apply them under the same criteria.
Marks for events FrameSynthesis is involved in
Events that FrameSynthesis exhibited at or organized carry a short mark such as “Run by FrameSynthesis (booth)”. Whether we list something or how we present it never depends on its relationship with us.
About titles and line-ups
Line-ups change at each venue’s discretion. We can’t guarantee this list is accurate, so please check the official site before you go.
We add tags such as “Walk-around” or “Horror” only when the venue’s official description supports them. If the description does not make it clear, we leave the tag off. “Walk into a story”, “Walk-around” and “Booth” are told apart not by the size of the room but by whether walking around is at the heart of the experience. Among the ones you walk around in, those centered on following a story or world are “Walk into a story”, and games and the like are “Walk-around”. This is based on official information and our own checks.
How prices are shown
Prices change often, so instead of exact amounts we show a rough price range for one adult and one experience. When the price differs between weekdays and weekends or between titles, we use the cheapest regular general (adult) price of the main experience. For venues where the experience is included in admission, we use the admission price. If we cannot verify a price on the official site, we show no range. Please check the official site, linked from each page, for current prices.
The ranges are as follows (the boundary amount belongs to the higher range).
- Under ¥2,000
- ¥2,000–4,000
- ¥4,000–6,000
- ¥6,000 and up
Hours, requirements and safety notes
Opening hours, age and height requirements, health and clothing notes, and how to book are set by each venue and title. They change often and we could end up showing outdated details, so we do not list them on this site. Please check the official site before you go.
Many venues that use VR headsets have age limits, and children may not be able to take part. Please check the official site before you go.
Corrections and removal
- If you find a mistake or a change, or know of a venue, event or official video that is not listed, please tell us through the contact form. A link to an official page helps us check faster.
- Information we receive is checked against official sources before it is listed. Anything we cannot verify is not listed.
- Operators and organizers can also ask us to remove a listing through the same channel.
- When we correct something, we update the last-checked date.
Using this site
- Prices and titles can change. Always check the official site before you go, including for hours, requirements and how to book.
- Map positions are approximate, not building entrances.
- The map on the home page uses OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors).
- The map embedded on each venue and event page is Google Maps. When it loads, your browser communicates with Google (Google Privacy Policy).
- Heading fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so opening a page sends a request to Google.
- Only when you press “Near me” does your browser ask to use your location. It is used only inside your browser to sort nearby venues and show distances, and is never sent to us (it is not stored or put in the URL).
- Official videos come from official channels on YouTube (Google). Nothing connects to YouTube until you press play (only the thumbnail image is loaded from YouTube); once you do, your browser communicates with YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode). We list only videos from official channels of the operator, the creator or distributor of the work, or the festival.
